A statement from Adam..

I was preparing and looking forward to the meeting on saturday against Edinburgh. Half an hour before the start of the meeting i was called into the medical room where Ian Thomas, Dc Butler, the referee and my father were present. Ian then accused me of having mental health problems and being a danger to other riders, he said he had discussed this with Dc Butler and they both said i was going to be pulled out of the meeting and the forseable future. Dc Butler then asked me about my crash i had at Edinburgh the night before and how my neck had felt after it, i said 'it felt a little sore last night and this morning but it feels better than ever now' and he replied with 'that's worrying'. No further questions where asked and i was very upset so i left the room. I started to pack my bikes and race equipment away when Ian Thomas came up to me and told me to hand my race jacket back in at the office and i was finished for Workington this year. I feel this was a desperate ploy to get me out of the meeting so he could use r/r for me and possibly strengthen after a few weeks of poor team performances.

I was not injured as was announced on the parade Saturday night was lying to the fans, Ian Thomas knew he couldn't say i had been injured because i was fine..So Ian said i was psychologically not fit enough which the Doctor took his word as truth without giving me a medical examination of his own. I think the whole situation was handled very poorly as he did only tell me half an hour before the start, I'm very disappointed with Ian for not being straight with me and explaining he thinks i should have a break from speedway for a couple of weeks to get such things as my machinary back up together, without making imaginary medical problems up for me.

I have been to my own GP today and he has given me a clean bill of health both psysically and mentally. I feel very sorry for Workington speedway if they need to go to these extremes, and i will be taking the situation further by writing to the medical council and speaking to the necassary people.
